Bianco Carrara
The best-known Italian marble in the world: a pearl-white ground crossed by fine, evenly spaced grey veins.

The slabs
The eight selections are eight different quarry beds, photographed in the same scene at the same scale: the A-frame is always the same one, and it does the measuring. The length is free, the height is not — the bed decides it, and on a coursed wall the bed is the course.

280 × 125 cm2 cm and 3 cm thick
The highest bed in the quarry — 130 cm — and so the tallest slab Serpeggiante can give. A very pale, almost grey ground with the finest striping of the range: the selection to specify when the wall has to be a single course.
Request this selection: Serpeggiante Z
280 × 95 cm2 cm and 3 cm thick
The coolest ground of the group, with a hint of green, and dense continuous striping. A 100 cm bed — the second height available.
Request this selection: Serpeggiante E
280 × 90 cm2 cm and 3 cm thick
The warmest of the set: a pinkish ground, broad soft bands and a few sharp dark inclusions that stay visible under a honed finish. A 95 cm bed.
Request this selection: Serpeggiante P
280 × 55 cm2 cm and 3 cm thick
A full hazel ground with dense, even striping: of all the beds, the one that reads most like timber. A 60 cm bed.
Request this selection: Serpeggiante S
280 × 55 cm2 cm and 3 cm thick
A very pale cream ground with fine, low-contrast striping: the most neutral bed in the basin, the one that imposes nothing on the scheme. A 60 cm bed.
Request this selection: Serpeggiante FG
280 × 55 cm2 cm and 3 cm thick
Named for its lines: striping more marked and more regular than FG, on a barely pink cream ground. A 60 cm bed.
Request this selection: Serpeggiante Righina
280 × 45 cm2 cm and 3 cm thick
Chocolate brown with sharp, contrasted banding: the dark selection of the basin, and the hardest to repeat from one delivery to the next. A 50 cm bed.
Request this selection: Serpeggiante ZE
280 × 45 cm2 cm and 3 cm thick
Silvery cream, a cool ground and discreet striping: the palest and quietest selection, much used in bathrooms. A 50 cm bed.
Request this selection: Serpeggiante SilvabellaSerpeggiante is the trade name of the limestone quarried in the Apricena and Lesina basin, on the slopes of the Gargano — Italy’s second stone district after Carrara, and the one on our own doorstep. Cut along the bedding plane it shows long, parallel bands of light and dark beige, a figure close enough to timber that the trade calls it wood marble. Each type is a different quarry bed: the tone changes, the spacing of the bands changes, and above all the height of the slab changes — from the 50 cm of Silvabella to the 130 cm of type Z. That is the number a project turns on, because on a coursed wall it is the bed that sets the height of the course.
How the finish changes the stone
Installed
Stone changes with the surface it covers: on a continuous wall the figure reads in full, on a floor you walk across it. These are reference settings.
